A journey of the Hasseman family and our life here in Coshocton County

It's been a while

Since my last post. It's not that nothing has been going on...but a lot has. I have been doing some blogging, but it has been to keep up with my workout regimine. So wish me luck with that.

The grumblings I am hearing right now is that the city should not accept the gift of the JII building. I have a different opinion. I want to get your input (if you have any) and then I will throw out my thoughts!

I think they should take it and then get very proactive in finding a new company to take it over so they aren't responsible for maintenance any longer than they have to be. I don't think they should use it for some city purpose but it's a golden opportunity to bring in some jobs. Not many companies are going to pass on free property. That is a heck of an incentive to move into a community and I know of several organizations I could approach right now about getting someone in there. My biggest pet peeve when it comes to Coshocton area officials is they're timidness towards economic development. They need to get aggressive because they're in a competition with other communities for jobs and you don't want to settle for the stuff that comes easy because I guarantee it will be bottom of the barrel stuff.

I'm seriously considering forming my own private economic development orgnization for Coshocton minus any government influence. It is my opinion that the wheels of progress are not moving as fast as they could, or should be, within the community.

I work for an organization set up through Taft's Third Frontier Initiative called "PolymerOhio" and we promote the plastics industry, which is Ohio's largest employing industry, and we also work to bring in new polymer related jobs. We don't have a contact in Coshocton County at all. If they're serious about economic development they're is no excuse for them not to have a contact at an organization that promotes Ohio's largest employing and only growing manufacturing segment. Not only that but the bi-products from ethanol can be used in manufacturing applications for certain types of polymers and having contacts in the plastics industry could benefit them with an ehtanol plant under construction.

I'm the kind of guy who will give people the benefit of the doubt and assume they are intelligent until they prove otherwise but I fear Coshocton doesn't even have average leadership right now. They lack creativity, vision, understanding of technology. I've never seen a city council debate a single issue for as long as they do in Coshocton. Here in Westerville they'll give a lot of stuff three readings in one night.

As you can probably tell from this post I'm so incredibly frustrated by Coshocton and I'm willing to do whatever I can to turn the place around even though I'm now forced to live 70 miles away so my wife and I can find decent jobs.
