Friday in Coshocton
As you may know if you read this blog with any regularity, the First Friday of each month, Coshocton has an event downtown. The event, which regulary has hundreds of people in attendance (tough to get a real count since there are no "entrances" to the event) has been designed to bring people together, make a nice community event, highlight arts and culture in our area, and even be a draw for outsiders.
By nearly all accounts the event has been a success. There is generally food, entertainment, displays, kids areas, etc. It's good stuff...and has a quintessential small town feel.
It's interesting, to me, that some downtown merchants are not in favor of closing the street for the event. These are well-meaning folks who are just trying to make a living...so I don't intend to beat them up here. But I think they are missing the point.
So to illustrate the point...on First Fridays (with the street closed) there are hundreds of people on the square and up and down main street. Here is what Main Street looked like last night (Friday) at 5:40pm.
As you can see the street is open...but really? Is this better for business?

Point well made!

I'll second that. We came into town once for First Friday's and under normal circumstances we wouldn't be in Coshocton on a Friday night.
